Retrofit of the Building Maintenance Unit – Qatar Energy Headquarters

Carried out the retrofit of the Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) at QP Towers, West Bay, integrating a Siemens S7-1200 PLC with Siemens V20 VFDs for precise motion control. A wireless control interface, supplied by Conductix-Wampfler, was implemented to enable remote operation directly from the cradle. The BMU facilitates full facade access via hoisting, slewing, and telescoping mechanisms, allowing for external glass panel cleaning and minor facade repairs.

All motion sequences are interlocked through safety-rated limit switches and control logic to comply with stringent safety requirements for high-altitude operations. The system ensures fail-safe operation, with control access from the cradle eliminating the need to operate from the rooftop main panel. One dedicated control panel was installed on each tower’s rooftop, ensuring distributed, localized control while maintaining full system integrity and operator safety.
